A calm, creative space for young artists in Hassocks.
Our Home Education sessions offer a calm, low demand creative studio space for young people who learn best outside of traditional school environments. Sessions are rooted in Creative Freedom, valuing autonomy, choice and self-directed making over outcomes or performance.

What to expect
Our Home Ed sessions are designed for young people who benefit from a quiet, low-demand environment where they can enjoy art without pressure.
They work particularly well for young people who:
feel anxious in busy or noisy spaces
find socialising tricky
experience low self-esteem
are autistic and/or ADHD
benefit from calm structure and predictable routines
want to build confidence through creative practice
Sessions are:
calm and seated
studio-based and relational
supported by professional artists
focused on process rather than outcomes
Individual art materials are provided. Gentle movement is built in through regular opportunities to collect paper, paint or tools, supporting regulation while maintaining a settled atmosphere.
Important information about the environment
We share the building with Age Concern, so it’s essential that everyone respects the elderly and vulnerable people using the space.
This means:
no running in corridors
keeping noise levels low
no shouting
following clear safety expectations
Because of this, these sessions are not suitable for young people who:
need a high-energy or physically active environment
find it very difficult to remain seated
are unable to follow the venue’s safety and noise expectations
If you’re unsure whether the space will be a good fit for your child, please get in touch - Abi is always happy to talk it through.
Our approach
Love Art Home Ed sessions are:
low-demand and choice-led
informed by neurodivergent-affirming and PDA-aware practice
focused on safety, regulation and belonging
free from targets, grades or compulsory outcomes
There is no requirement to explain, justify or evidence learning. Creative Freedom means just that - freedom.
Optional portfolio support
For young people who would like it, we offer a very gentle, optional portfolio builder alongside Creative Freedom.
This may include:
sketchbooks or simple portfolios
documenting a creative journey
photos of work in progress or finished pieces
individual projects developed over time
exploring a range of artists, materials, styles and approaches
There are no deadlines, targets or assessment, and young people can engage with this as much or as little as they choose - or not at all.
A portfolio can be a helpful way to show how a young person works creatively if that feels useful, but it comes with no promises or expectations.
Creative Engagement Certificates (optional)
We offer termly Creative Engagement Certificates, which are entirely optional and parent-led.
These certificates:
recognise creative engagement over time
are not attendance-led or outcome-based
respect that young people may attend flexibly or dip in and out
are never used to measure progress or achievement
Certificates are only offered if a young person is comfortable with this. Parents can choose whether a certificate is posted or placed in an envelope to collect at a session.
Arts Award (external option)
We do not run Arts Award as a Love Art group programme, as we want to protect the low-demand nature of the sessions.
Families who wish to pursue Arts Award can do so externally, while continuing to use Love Art sessions as studio time for creative work. Please get in touch so that we can link you to our partner provider.
Is this the right space?
Our Home Ed sessions are best suited to young people who:
thrive with autonomy and choice
benefit from calm, predictable environments
enjoy art without pressure
find traditional education challenging
value creative process over results
Creative Freedom comes first - always.
